To better understand why Article V should be used and that it is time to do so, an analogy.
Article V, a part of the original Constitution before any amendments, is a tool for defending the Republic, freedom, liberty etc. The second amendment is another tool added three and a half years later.
So let's look at it this way. Imagine you have a house (nation) with a security system (the Constitution) that you put in place a number of years ago. Your backup in case they did break in is your gun collection (Second Amendment). The security system was good enough that you have not had to use the backup system and it has not been at the forefront of you thoughts. Also, the criminals are then in your house and more of a problem than if they were thwarted at the door. The 2nd amendment is the last resort here; violence has already happened.
Criminals have been trying to break in for years, but you did get the best security system a the time. Breaches have been minimal and the warning sirens seemed to work.
However, some years ago the attacks have gotten worse. The criminals have broken in to your home while you were not home to protect it. Tonight, you are home and the criminals are surrounding the house. These criminals have found several ways to defeat your security system (Constitution).
The security system (Constitution) you so love and depend on is not going to be enough. You need reinforcement. You need your backup (Article V).
But you and those in your house have never had to use your guns (Article V) and some disagree with the idea. They say that there is nothing wrong with the security system (Constitution).
And, in a way, if the criminals were the same criminals you had when you put it in, they would be right. But no, these are smarter criminals. They have spent a lot of time looking for holes, ways around, the security system. And they have found some. And now, they are using them. The doors are falling down now.
But wisely, you did invest in a backup (Article V) for your security system (Constitution). But your opposition does not want to use it. They want your guns (Article V) locked up in the gun safe and left unused.
You know that would be suicide, and all during the time while the doors are collapsing and you are trying to read the combination from your notes and enter it into the gun safe (Article V), these detractors are yelling and screaming at you, beating on your back with whatever they can find to stop you.
They say the security system (Constitution) works fine, and they insist that the criminals should obey it. The criminals are the problem, and they should voluntarily do the right thing.
Really now, ask yourself: whose side are they criminals on?
Which side are the detractors on?
So, do you stop? Do you avoid using your backup (Article V)?
No.
